Youth Essays on Gendered Islamophobia
Franca Ferrari analyses the different discourses and media treatment received by people fleeing the conflict in Syria and Ukraine. According to her analysis, the perception that ends up being transmitted is that on the one hand, “there are the good refugees, that is, those who are like us and deserve our solidarity and, on the other, the bad refugees, those others who threaten us”, in reference to Ukrainians and Syrians respectively.
Franca Ferrari has a degree in International Relations from the Universidad Nacional de San Martín (Argentina) and she’s currently pursuing a master’s degree in Migration Studies at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Her research interests are narratives about and by migrants. The last few years she has worked in humanitarian work and NGO’s. She’s currently presenting the humanitarian news channel of Médecins Sans Frontières and she’s also a research assistant in a project on child marriage and child labour in Latin America combining qualitative and quantitative analysis.
